Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc is looking for an experienced General Manager with a reliable record of success to run its television and digital operations in Des Moines, Iowa (DMA #69).  Nexstar’s duopoly of WOI-TV(ABC) and KCWI(CW), along with a highly trafficked website,, represent a significant competitive edge in the market. The state capital, Des Moines, is the center of attention each Presidential election year as it hosts the first caucuses in the election cycle.  The city is also regarded as a center for the insurance business and financial services combining to bolster a growing economy.  As such, twice in the last six years, Des Moines has ranked as the “Best Place for Business” by Forbes magazine.

Des Moines offers big city living in a state known for its agriculture and rural communities.  But it still captures the very essence of Midwestern living while offering an exceptional quality of life.  Politics isn’t the only center of attention as it is hosting the LPGA’s Solheim Cup, a golf event that rivals the PGA’s Ryder Cup and last year the city hosted its first ever NCAA tournament games.

For the right individual, this is an opportunity to join one of the largest owned station groups in the industry and oversee a television station duopoly with a growing competitive position in the market.  WOI has undergone a total rebuild of its news operation, including an enhancement to the overall production value and a relaunch of the brand to emphasize a focused commitment on local content.  The latter has earned the station several accolades for journalistic achievement and integrity, including an Edward R. Murrow award.   Further, upon acquisition of the CW in 2016, Nexstar expanded its news presence adding a 9pm primetime newscast on KCWI while revamping a popular morning lifestyle show.

The stations have also emerged as a destination for local political coverage.  Acknowledging Iowa’s significant role in the Presidential election cycles, WOI launched a weekly political program that featured exclusive interviews in 2016 with almost every Presidential candidate, and it continues to attract a list of other high-profile politicians and experts. The show reports on relevant political topics and events across the state and airs in all Nexstar Iowa markets; Sioux City and Quad Cities.  Further, in 2016 WOI teamed with its sister stations as noted above to broadcast “live” statewide coverage of the Presidential caucuses in primetime.

The new GM will be tasked with identifying new, creative revenue opportunities in a highly competitive top 70 television market and to guide local broadcast and digital operations to more successes across all its media assets.  Collaborative programming along with state and regional revenue projects are just some of the many exciting prospects awaiting an experienced and proven broadcast leader.

The successful candidate will have an accomplished history of successes in a sales-driven organization and will be expected to develop revenue across multiple platforms. This candidate will provide inspired leadership to energize others to perform at the highest level while promoting teamwork within all station departments.  The candidate must be able to exceed revenue, grow market revenue share, grow audience share and build success in linear and non-linear sales performance.

In addition, we are looking for someone with a trademark of success in revenue and ratings development while creating operating efficiencies all to increase bottom line profitability.  An emphasis on localism is essential as it is the bloodline of Nexstar.  Further, we are looking for a stakeholder, someone who is engaging, promotes good citizenship and wants to make a positive impact on the community.

If you are driven by a determination to succeed, have a tireless work ethic, as well as a commitment towards creative, successful revenue generation and are engaged in serving the community, then email your resume and a short biography regarding your professional history to: Diane Kniowski @
