RESPONSIBILITIES: Seeking a dynamic, experienced News leader with solid News judgment to oversee and lead daily management and strategic planning of the News Department, including digital News content. Responsible for setting the newsroom journalistic standards that govern who, what, where, when and why a particular news event is covered. Ensures that the journalistic reliability of our stations remains uncompromised; maps out news coverage strategies, and plans assignments that showcase the talent in ways compatible with the stations’ image goals. Responsible for the vision, strategies, and tactical adjustments for newscasts online, on-air, in-mobile and in social media 24/7. Demonstrate knowledge of current local, national and international events and issues. Work with other department Managers to accomplish the goals of our stations. Represent the station in a manner consistent with the business standards and policies of the Company. Prepare and execute department operating and capital budgets. Recruitment of all newsroom personnel. Resolve staffing and equipment issues. Manages, evaluates, and monitors employee performance on an on-going basis. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.
REQUIREMENTS: Journalism degree from a 4-year college and a minimum of five years’ experience in news management with noted leadership skills is required. Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel and privacy laws. Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts and must have a proven track record of success in building a winning news organization. Must have excellent supervisory and management skills. Must have exceptional editorial judgment and the ability to deliver compelling live television. Must have strong fiscal experience for both operational and capital expenditures. Must have the ability to challenge employees to grow and develop newsgathering and reporting skills to consistently deliver informative, compelling and accurate newscasts. Must be able to use newsroom computer systems, including iNews.
